Abstract: In this 15:14-minute video, teachers describe the characteristics of an inclusive early childhood setting as the viewer observes scenes from inclusive classrooms. Inclusion is described as all children engaging in the same activities together but participating in diverse ways. The teachers’ job is to plan together to figure out how each child will participate in his or her own way. Teachers view the children from an ability perspective, planning activities that build on the strengths of every child.

Integration: The information presented in this video fits well with content presented in the early childhood courses Child, Family and Community; Curriculum Planning; and Introduction to Early Childhood.

Content Focus: Ability-based Instruction; Access Services and Supports; Assistive Technology; Child, Family and Community; Curriculum Planning; Family; Differentiation; Intentional Planning; Introduction to Early Childhood; Inclusion; Parent; Strengths-based Planning

Notes: Have students discuss how they will ensure that every child in their inclusive classroom participates fully and works on the same learning objectives and activities.
